Veracity CEO joins UK FinTech mission to Australia

Veracity Trust Network’s CEO Nigel Bridges recently headed out to Australia as part of the UK FinTech Mission to the Intersekt Festival.

The Intersekt Festival is the largest gathering of Australian FinTechs, hubs, accelerators, policymakers, regulators, investors and advisors. It’s devoted to examining, discussing and unlocking the potential of the country’s FinTech market.

Eleven companies from the UK joined the Department for Business and Trade delegation on the Mission to Sydney and Melbourne over the August Bank Holiday weekend and following week.

The 2023 UK Fintech Trade Mission to Australia’s Intersekt Festival is a mission organised by the Department of Business and Trade (DBT). The week started with a series of meetings in Sydney at the British Consulate-General overlooking Circular Quay, before progressing to Melbourne for the Intersekt Conference.

It provides participating companies with an opportunity to network and connect with key stakeholders and decision-makers in Australia’s FinTech ecosystem. These included the regulators, key suppliers, state and federal government contacts and, of course, financial sector organisations and buyers.

During the visit, Nigel was guest on a popular FS-sector podcast where he spoke on the topic of fraud in the sector. Listen here.

Commenting on the visit, Nigel said “We were delighted to have been chosen for the mission, which shows the depth and applicability of the Veracity solution and the timeliness to the Australia financial sector. The visit reinforced the market need for anti-fraud solutions such as Veracity and we look forward to building on the contacts made during the visit to grow our presence in the region.

The signing of the UK-Australia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the UK-New Zealand FTA has bolstered the opportunity for UK-based companies in the APAC region. As a result, two-way trade and investment between the countries is continually improving. A number of companies have successfully transversed the ‘FinTech bridge’ and many more are beginning to do so.

To capitalise on these, the Mission invites UK-based organisations to learn about payment, lending, opening banking, ESG and more in the region.

Discussing the companies capitalising on the opportunity at Intersket following the FTAs, Louise Cantillon, British Consul General and Deputy Trade Commissioner Asia Pacific (Australia and New Zealand) said: “This culture of innovation, partnership and entrepreneurial spirit along with a world-class talent pool will continue to propel the UK’s financial services sector to new and exciting heights.

“This can best be achieved through UK and Australian collaboration with the FinTech bridge accelerating success in both markets.”

UK-Australia FinTech Bridge

Launched in March 2018, the UK-Australia FinTech Bridge is an agreement between the UK and Australian governments to support FinTech companies in both countries.

It promotes collaboration, co-operation and partnerships and facilitates entry for wealthtechs into each other’s markets, especially by reducing regulatory barriers and allowing steps towards reciprocity on policy.

The UK Government actively works to deliver the benefits of the FinTech Bridge by bringing together the UK and Australian FinTech eco-systems and helping companies in both countries identify opportunities for growth.
